Sociology 355Y1 - Structural Analysis
We’ve all heard it said, “It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.” Structural Analysis, more commonly known as Social Network Analysis, is the study of who you know, who they know, and why it matters.
Students in SOC355 learn to describe the structure of social of networks, including social support networks, workplace networks, sexual networks, organizational networks, friendship networks, and internet-based social networks. Students also learn why the shapes of these networks matter for outcomes such as being healthy, finding a job, getting a promotion, escaping poverty, catching a cold, having a great idea, and getting other people to recognize a great idea.

Sociology 6008F - Network Analysis I
Network analysis focuses on understanding patterns of relationships between social actors (e.g. people, organizations) or socially-relevant units (e.g. computers, books or articles, ideas). This course will not focus on a particular applications of social networks, but rather cover a wide range of sociological topics, demonstrating how social network approaches are being used fruitfully to study each.
